He is the favorite enemy of Hungarian prime-minister Orbán, Turkish president Erdogan, and Russian president Putin. Internet trolls depict George Soros as the Jewish capitalist who wants to throw the borders open, mix the races, and flood the West with Muslim refugees. The conspiracy theory that Soros was funding the migrant caravan that is making its way to the U.S. was taken up by Donald Trump and Fox News, which seems to have made the demonizing of Soros its top revenue model. In The Netherlands, he was attacked because of his support for a referendum on the EU-Ukraine Association. Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf portrayed him as the hidden funder behind the Kick Out Zwarte Piet action group. Zwarte Piet, or Black Pete, is the helper of St. Nicholas and part of a traditional holiday festival. Because Black Pete is usually played by a white person in blackface, the character has become controversial.
