Discriminatie niet\u2019.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpg-element paragraph\">\n<p>Het winnende artikel: &#8216;Er wordt gediscrimineerd. Punt uit.&#8217; gaat over etnische en raciale discriminatie op de werkvloer in Nederland en is in november 2005 gepubliceerd in Vrij Nederland. De tweede en derde prijs zijn respectievelijk gewonnen door artikelen uit Polen en Ierland. De prijs voor de fotocategorie gaat ook naar een Nederlandse fotograaf, Joost van den Broek.<\/p>\n<p>De winnaars kregen vandaag hun prijzen tijdens een offici\u00eble ceremonie uitgereikt in Brussel door Vladim\u00edr \u0160pidla, Europees Commissaris voor Werkgelegenheid, Sociale Zaken en gelijke behandeling. De journalistenprijs maakt onderdeel uit van de vijfjarige Europese campagne \u2018Verschil moet er zijn. Discriminatie niet.\u2019<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpg-element paragraph\">\n<p>De jaarlijkse wedstrijd beoogt een beter begrip van de voordelen van diversiteit en vraagt aandacht voor het gevecht tegen discriminatie op het werk. Als winnaars van de nationale prijs streden Harm Ede Botje en Sander Donkers in de Europese finale tegen 25 andere Europese kandidaten.<\/p>\n<p>Het juryrapport schreef: &#8216;We selected the Dutch article for the first prize as it presents an issue that is relevant to all European societies these days. Focussing on the situation in the Netherlands, it also reflects the relevance of the topic (Muslim minorities) for the whole of Europe. The problem of discrimination in the labour market is very well researched and lots of case studies are given. This way it digs deeper in the topic than many other articles and presents the issue from several angles.&#8217;<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpg-element paragraph\">\n<p>&#8216;The article is both provocative and revealing, as it uncovers discrimination in a country that has a reputation for openness and tolerance. The article is very readable, and written with a pinch of irony that helps the reader get through this rather depressing issue. The overall conclusion of the article is quite a pessimistic one-this, unfortunatly, shows the relevance of combating discrimination in today&#8217;s Europe. &#8216;<\/p>\n<p>De EU-journalistenprijs is een initiatief van de Europese Unie.
