<\/strong>Navo: teveel burgerdoden bij militair optreden; 18 Navo-doden bij zes maal zoveel zelfmoordaanslagen in 2006. De Navo geeft toe dat er teveel burgerdoden zijn gevallen bij acties in 2006. Zo kunnen de hearts en the minds van de bevolking niet worden gewonnen. Civilian deaths in the war against Taliban rebels have hurt the ability of coalition forces to win the hearts and minds of the Afghan people, a NATO spokesman conceded Wednesday<\/em> (3 januari 2007) “It’s not something you want to do. It has been regrettable incidents over the course of the past five years,” said Squadron Leader Dave Marsh, a British spokesman for the western alliance.\u201cWe\u2019ve been doing everything we can to try and reduce that number,” Marsh told to reporters at Kandahar Airfield.<\/em> (The Toronto Star<\/a>). NATO did not give an estimate of the number of civilian deaths caused by coalition operations. However, it said the insurgents launched 117 suicide attacks last year, a 600 per cent increase over 2005, killing 206 Afghan civilians, 54 Afghan security personnel and 18 NATO soldiers.<\/em> <\/strong><\/p>\n

In Uruzgan sneuvelden drie Talibanstrijders bij Car Cineh. NATO reported a battle between Afghan National Army (ANA) and coalition special operations forces near Cahar Cineh in Uruzgan province Tuesday. <\/em>A group of Taliban was observed placing improvised explosive devices along a road before moving to a nearby compound. BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan<\/em> (3 January) \u2013 Afghan National Army (ANA) and Coalition special operations forces engaged and defeated insurgents near Cahar Cineh in Uruzgan province yesterday.<\/em> <\/p>\n

The ANA and Coalition troops observed insurgents placing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along a road before moving to a nearby compound. An air strike and indirect fire were called in, resulting in the death of three insurgents. Three AK-47 automatic rifles were also recovered from the compound. Uruzgan Task Force units liggen onder vuur
In the past few days, units of the Uruzgan Task Force have come under fire from enemy forces three times. On Friday 5 January, a combined observation unit composed of Dutch commandotroops and an Afghan unit were fired at near Kala Kala, approximately 30 kilometres north of Tarin Kowt. One Dutch Apache combat helicopter provided air support, but did not need to use its weapons. <\/strong>Apaches helpen Britse soldaten
Op verzoek van Britse eenheden zijn gisteren in de Afghaanse provincie Helmand Nederlandse Apache-gevechtshelikopters ingezet. Tijdens de steunverlening werd gebruik gemaakt van hellfire<\/em> raketten en het 30mm boordkanon.<\/strong>
<\/strong>Bij terugkeer op de thuisbasis Tarin Kowt bleek \u00e9\u00e9n van de Apaches licht beschadigd door kogelinslag. Naar verwachting kan herstel van de schade in het inzetgebied plaatsvinden. Zo bleek tijdens de NAVO-bijeenkomst voor ministers van buitenlandse zaken in Brussel. Today’s talks come as the alliance faces a tough challenge from a resurgent Taliban. More than 4,000 people died in violence la<\/em>st year, making it the bloodiest since U.S.-led forces toppled the Taliban government in 2001.The meeting also comes amid fears that the Taliban will step up the level of violence again in the spring. U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher told the BBC today he expected a “difficult and dangerous and bloody spring.”<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

NATO now leads some 33,000 troops from 37 nations in the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. That’s the bulk of the some 40,000 international troops in Afghanistan. But there’s been U.S. frustration at what Washington sees as a lack of commitment from some of its partners. <\/em><\/p>\n

Today saw some promises of extra help for Afghanistan. NATO spokesman James Appathurai said allies agreed that they would step up their efforts in Afghanistan. “[NATO] allies are going to step up their civilian, military, and economic efforts, with increased pledges for funding, with more personnel on the ground, civilian and military, to assist in training, both military and civilian training, and with more forces on the ground,” Appathurai said<\/em>.(Radio Free Europe\/RFL<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Nederland verhoogt hulp aan Afghanistan maar heeft ook kritiek:
Foreign Minister Ben Bot on Friday called on the Afghan government to do more itself for the reconstruction of Afghanistan. The government must get its legal system in order and quickly expand its own army, he said Friday at a NATO meeting in Brussels. “The fact that there are 31,000 foreign troops and only 16,000 Afghan soldiers is unbalanced.”<\/em> (NIS News Bulletin<\/a>) De hulp aan Uruzgan gaat omhoog van 5 naar 10 mln. euro. De hulpaankondiging komt op het moment dat ook de VS, volgens de BBC om de andere Navo-leden onder druk te zetten om het voorbeeld te volgen, er een schepje bovenop doen in Afghanistan. Last night between Mujahideen of Islamic Emirate and foreign invaders a heavy clash happened in Jakjoy area of Khas Uruzgan of Uruzgan province.This firefight continued four hours in result 4 bodies of mercenary soldiers were rest in area and 2 vehicles were demolished also 2 Mujahideen were martyred and 4 wounded.
