I am honored to be in this beautiful spaceship, and to be hosted by remarkable friends. James Kirk, Capt. Apollo, Anakin Skywalker, Lt. Starbuck, Dr. Heywood Floyd, Arthur Philip Dent, Jeff Tracy and of course E.T. Together, you represent the harmony between the many dimensions that constitute the ever-expanding universe that we all live in.

I am grateful for your hospitality. I am also proud to carry with me the goodwill of the American people, and a greeting of peace from all humans, animals and plants on planet earth.

We meet at a time of tension in our galaxy. Tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate. Violent extremists have exploited these tensions in a small but potent minority of extraterrestrial life forms. Terrorrestrials have tried to divide the galaxy by engaging in violence against other forms of life. And have led some on my planet to view space as inevitably hostile to earthlings.

I have come here to seek a new beginning between earth and the galaxy. Yet I do recognize that change cannot happen overnight. No single speech can eradicate years of mistrust, nor can I answer in the time that I have all the complex questions that brought us to this point. But I am convinced that in order to move forward, we must say openly the things we hold in our hearts, and that too often are said only behind closed doors.

I know that the galaxy has always been a part of our lives. As a kid I grew up watching many TV shows that spoke of outer space in a way that captured our imagination. Yes there are villains on earth, just as there are villains in outer space. But know that I consider it part of my responsibility as President to fight against negative stereotypes of extraterrestrial life wherever they appear.

That same principle however must apply to extra terrestrial life forms. Because let me make one thing clear. Except from E.T. and perhaps some Close Encounters of the Third Kind, there has been very little interest in planet earth from outside the Milky Way.

Just as aliens do not fit a crude stereotype of being one eyed green freaks, we on earth are not the crude stereotype of a self-interested planet. Yes it is true that our spaceships often only orbit our planet. And no, we have never left our solar system. But that is not because we are not interested in you. It is because our scientists are simply not very smart. Although we should not forget that our science is dictated by nature, where as your science is fiction.

Ultimately however I believe we are al drawn from every end of the universe and dedicated to a simple concept: E pluribus unum: 'Out of many, one.'

Much has been made of the fact that an African-American with the name Barack Hussein Obama could be elected President. But my personal story is not so unique. Just think of how people with equally funny names like Anakin Skywalker, Lt. Starbuck and Obi-Wan Kenobi have come to play important roles in the universe. Having a strange name not only helps when you are a leader. It also makes it less likely that your name has already been claimed on Gmail account.

Of course, recognizing our strange names is only the beginning of our task. Words alone cannot meet the needs of all galactic life forms. These needs will be met only if we act boldly in the years ahead; and if we understand that the challenges we face are shared, and our failure to meet them will hurt us all.

During my stopover on Krypton, I made it clear that the solar system is not – and never will be – at war with the universe. We will, however, relentlessly confront violent extremists who pose a grave threat to our security. Because we reject the same thing that people, androids, robots en extraterrestrials of all planets reject: the killing of innocent women, children and robots. And it is my first duty as President to protect earth against terrorrestrials like Emperor Palpatine, Gaius Baltar...
